I know there are a lot of people who hate the brown boot-up/login screen that they are presented with during bootup.

But fear not it can be changed!

this little application called “Xsplash Background Settings” allows you to change it to any wallpaper you like on the fly.

It allows you to use a custom background or to use the current Desktop background for Xsplash.

How to install

First add the repository by entering the following command in terminal

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:meerkat/stable

After you have added the repository you need to enter the following commands in a terminal to install it:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install xsplash-background-settings

And thats it!
You can find the application at: System=>Preferences=>Xsplash Background Settings
