Anonymous Takes Down DOJ, RIAA, and More

Anonymous has taken down several sites in response to the news that the US Government has taken down the popular file sharing site Megaupload citing copyright infringement. Federal Agents have issued 20 search warrents around the globe, and arrested two individuals involved with Megaupload in New Zealand.

The group has launched a denial of service attack on the Department of Justice website, rendering it unusable for the last 2 hours. The group also launched attacks on the Universal Music Group, as well as the RIAA, MPAA chief Chris Dodd's personal website, Copyright.gov, and BMI.com.

Expect this to go on for a while. “Get some popcorn… it’s going to be a long lulzy night,” writes Anonnews.

The group has stated via twitter they are currently in the process of attempting to take down Whitehouse.gov.

Update: CNN reports: "Source inside Anonymous claims More than 27,000 computers involved in DOJ attack."

Update 2: The news has seemed to slow for now, but wei'll update if anything happens.

Update 3: Anonymous has just taken down wmg.com (Warner Music Group) website.

TODAY WE ARE ON STRIKE AGAINST SOPA/PIPA

We are going on strike to protest against the SOPA and PIPA bills.

We're protesting of proposed legislation "The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the PROTECTIP Act (PIPA) in the U.S. Senate" that, if passed, will harm the free, secure, and open Internet.

These bills endanger free speech both in the United States and abroad, setting a frightening precedent of Internet censorship for the world.
Today we ask you to take action.
How Can You Join The Fight?

To maximize the impact, please consider calling your US Representative and US Senators and explain that you are a constituent and that you oppose these bills and similar future legislation. Things you may want to say to your Senator or Representative "As one of your concerned constituents, I urge you to oppose SOPA and PIPA or any future bill that would censor free speech and damage the security of the Internet." Regarding Censorship" The Internet has become an important communications tool allowing the free flow of ideas.

As introduced in the House and the Senate, SOPA and PIPA would give the Justice Department and courts tremendous power to shut down entire sites. These bills ignore the principles of the First Amendment that require tailored solutions in lieu of across-the-board censorship.

"Unfortunately these bills represent terrible precedents for the United States and the world." Regarding Cybersecurity "A safe and secure Web is vital to our privacy, our access to free knowledge, and to commerce. Hundreds of established authorities on the Internet believe that the required blocking of Internet sites in SOPA and PIPA is badly thought out and threatens Internet security."

Windows Phone Marketplace breaks 40,000 Apps

The Windows Phone Marketplace has gone from strength to strength this year, and has now finally reached 40,000 Applications and Games this month.

In October, the Marketplace passed the 35,000 mark and if the growth trends continue then it is estimated that it should reach 50,000 Applications and Games in January 2012.

Call of Duty: MW3 Launches Globally

At 12:01 players all across the world were getting there hands on the much awaited and highly anticipated newest addition to the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3.

Midnight launch event's were held at several stores throughout the United States, and around the globe, most notable event's were New York City, New York, USA, Los Angeles, California and several other cities across the world.

Most of the launch event's had "first to play" event's which have become a standard when it comes to a launch of a Call of Duty title.

Of course, what's a launch of a new service without a little trouble, all didn't quite go as planned for Activision with the launch of Call of Duty Elite, the company's new "Social gaming service", the service got overloaded with registration requests and subsequently took the registration system offline.

iPhone Preorders Over 1 Million in 24 Hours

Many speculated that the new iPhone would not outsell its predecessor the iPhone 4. It seems however that this isn't the case. While the iPhone 4 sold a massive 600k in its first 24 hours, the new iPhone 4S sold over a million in the same timescale.
On the Official Apple Site we read

Using a Windows Live ID to sign into Windows 8

In a post on the Windows Blog, Steven Sinofsky has detailed the new Windows 8 feature, that allows users to sign in using their Windows Live ID.

The main advantage of the feature is that it allows users to easily access a Windows 8 computer and synchronize settings such as:

First updates for Windows 8 Developer Preview

Having promised they would do so, Microsoft have released several updates for the Windows 8 Developer Preview, addressing both bugs and security issues.

It is unclear at the moment if future updates will introduce more features, or if Microsoft will limit those future builds as they work toward the first beta.

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
As outlined by Steven Sinofsky, some of the features demonstrated this morning at the Build conference are not present.

You can stay informed by monitoring the WinDev Twitter or Facebook who will tell us the minute the build is available to download.

Sadly, Steven Sinofsky tells us that not every feature demonstrated at Build will be present in this build.

NOTE: The preview build does not include every feature shown this morning. Shown but not in the Developer Preview release include the Windows Store, Windows Live Metro style apps, and some of the user interface features. The focus of the preview is the API and development tools for building Metro style apps
