When Will Windows 7 Be Available in Stores or Online?

Windows 7 will be broadly available on October 22, 2009, at this time you will be able to purchase new PCs with Windows 7 pre-installed, or if you've decided to purchase a retail boxed copy of Windows 7 you will be able to do so at this time.

If you would like to do so, Windows 7 is available for pre-order as of today, June 26, 2009. You can pre-order your copy of Windows 7 via the Microsoft Store.

What Options Do I have when I Order Windows 7 Online?

When you order your copy of Windows 7 from the Microsoft Store, you have the following options:

Download Windows 7

This option allows you to download an ISO image of Windows 7.

You will be responsible for burning the image to a DVD (Read our tutorial).

You will not receive any packaging with this option.

Your product key will be located online; you will need to print this for your reference.

Download Windows 7 and have a backup copy shipped to you

This option allows you to download an ISO image of Windows 7.

You will be responsible for burning the image to a DVD (Read our tutorial).

You will not receive any packaging with this option.

You will receive a backup disc, which will be shipped to you when it's available.

Your product key will be located online; you will need to print this for your reference.

Have the retail box shipped to you

This option allows you to have the retail package shipped to your home or business.

You will receive all materials included with the retail package which include:

Certificate of Authenticity.

Windows 7 "Getting Started Guide".

Windows 7 Product Key.

Windows 7 Install Disc (x86 / x64*).

*Note: The 64-bit (x64) installation disc will not be included in Windows 7 Home Basic, all other product editions will come with both x86 and x64.

What is the retail pricing for Windows 7?

Windows 7 Home Premium:

Upgrade Version: $119.99

Full Version: $199.99

Windows 7 Professional:

Upgrade Version: $199.99

Full Version: $299.99

Windows 7 Ultimate:

Upgrade Version: $219.99

What are the other ways to obtain Windows 7?

There are 2 ways you can get an upgrade version of Windows 7. The first is to purchase a new PC will Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, or Windows Vista Ultimate pre-installed.

If you purchase a new PC between June 26, 2009 and October 22, 2009 you will be eligible to receive a FREE copy of the Windows 7 equivelint to the version of Windows Vista that came pre-installed on your new PC.

The second way to obtain a FREE copy of Windows 7 is to purchase a retail boxed copy of Windows Vista. If you purchase a retail boxed copy of Windows Vista Ultimate (full or upgrade) you will receive a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate (full or upgrade). This program will also run between June 26, 2009 and October 22, 2009.

What are the system requirements for Windows 7?

1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32- (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.

Product functionality and graphics may vary based on your system configuration. Some features may require advanced or additional hardware.
