As many of you already know, the Playstation Network has been down for a few days now and the outage is likely to continue for longer as Sony rebuild the whole thing from scratch.
There is a rumor circulating that the hackers didn't actually take the Playstation Network offline, but instead Sony disabled it to prevent them from using an exploit that gave them full access to all content for free.
The exploit used, required hackers to install the 'rebug' firmware which essentially unlocks developer tools on retail PS3 consoles.
The whole point of unlocking the PS3 was to run home-brew software, not to cheat on games or steal from developers.
Guess there are always a few bad apples but this just sucks.
